NEW YORK STATE COUNCIL ON THE ARTS
FEASIBILITY STUDY
New York, New York
Challenge >> NYSCA was interested in learning how it could serve New York artists and arts organizations in a more equitable manner.
Approach >> Assembly Arts, in partnership with Knowledge Empower, analyzed grantmaking data from 2003 to 2018. We reported on the following:
Grant dollars per region over time
Per capita grant dollars per year and region
Percent of grants awarded verses the percent of grants requested per region
Grant dollars awarded per populations of color, median income, and disabled populations
Grant dollars per arts organization budget size and age, as well as first time grantees
Grant dollars analyzed per arts discipline
Recommendation >> We recommended that NYSCA use the data and our insights to provide additional resources in serving the identified underserved populations and communities.
Result >> NYSCA was able to make strategic grantmaking decisions and create programs to help provide funding and access to currently underserved populations. Further analysis will be required to identify the extent to which these strategies impacted grantmaking in those areas.
