CITY OF HOOVER PERFORMING ARTS CENTER

FEASIBILITY STUDY

Hoover, Alabama

The City of Hoover, Alabama—one of the Birmingham region’s fastest-growing suburban communities—has prioritized sports infrastructure but lacks a dedicated performing arts venue. Existing facilities, including a 250-seat library theatre and fully booked school auditoria, cannot meet demand. The City sought to evaluate a right-sized performing arts center.

TheatreDNA and its partners conducted a comprehensive feasibility study integrating community engagement, market analytics, facility benchmarking, and operational modeling. Stakeholder outreach—including interviews, public meetings, and user surveys—confirmed strong demand for a 1,000–1,200 seat venue capable of hosting Broadway tours, symphonic performances, and community-based programming. A regional inventory of over 60 venues revealed a clear gap in mid-sized facilities within a 10-mile radius, with no comparable venues serving the 500–2,000 seat range. Demographic and drive-time analysis across 20-, 40-, and 60-minute catchments reinforced Hoover’s position within a sizable and growing audience base tied to the Birmingham metropolitan area. These findings informed programmatic planning, utilization projections, and financial modeling.

The study confirmed the viability of a 1,200-seat performing arts center as a regional cultural anchor. The recommended model expands access to arts and touring content, supports economic development, and establishes a sustainable operational framework aligned with Hoover’s growth and community priorities.
